Senior Payroll Officer

The Senior Payroll Officer’s purpose is to support the efficient operations of the People & Culture team by coordinating and delivering a diverse range of human resources and payroll activities. This role focuses on recruitment, onboarding and induction, payroll support, HR reporting, and HR system administration.

 

Role Duties:

  • Provide support to employees and managers to ensure successful onboarding.
  • Assist the Payroll Manager in processing weekly and fortnightly payrolls, including casual timesheets, leave requests, employee terminations, and updating employee records.
  • Run end-to-end payroll during times of leave.
  • Review and improve current documentation practices for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop regular reports, including turnover, recruitment metrics, training hours, and ad-hoc reports using iChris and Astute.
  • Interpret awards/agreements and contracts regarding overtime, shift allowances, etc.
  • Assist in completing internal and external audits.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated relevant payroll experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify key issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience using a wide range of IT systems and software, with the ability to learn new systems easily - iChris and Astute Desirable
  • Proficiency in advanced-level Microsoft Excel.
  • Quality assurance/compliance experience, including managing audit trails and checking audit reporting.
  • Tertiary qualifications are highly regarded but not essential.
  • NFP (Not-for-Profit) experience is desirable.
  • Ability to travel between sites when needed.
